The Sting

It is summertime and the little six-legged bloodsuckers are swarming all over Lake County. Of course, your LakeCountyEye refers to the tax collector.

Haha, a big bite of your tax bill goes toward mosquito control. And some of you, according to the Daily Herald, are being double taxed:
While the pesky mosquito lacks size, it can pack a pretty significant wallop for suburban taxpayers, especially for some who are paying multiple agencies to battle the bugs.
Are you being double-taxed for mosquito control?
Spokespersons for the extermination industry were quick to defend the practice of using taxpayer dollars to eradicate mosquitoes on an industrial scale. One told your LakeCountyEye that while not quite as big as the "flying Buicks" in Florida, Lake County mosquitoes transmit deadly diseases not unlike the Spanish Flu, which killed 50 million in 1918.

Operatives who value their health & safety are advised to think twice before venturing out-of-doors. The photographic evidence does not lie:

Donkey Dung

Perhaps conceding that elections should be about building bridges and not walls, the Chicago Tribune Creepy Cartoonist® drew a picture of Hillary Clinton atop the Golden Arches:

Social Insecurity
Sharpeyed operatives will observe, however, that the donkey standing next to Hillary is not wearing a diaper:
A Lake County spokesman for Donald Trump explained that the poop represents the mess that the Democrats created. And that Trump should be imagined standing below the donkey.  "Only Mr Trump can fix it."

That's all your LakeCountyEye has. Scat.

A Cock and Bull Story

don't have a cow Local delegates to the GOP Convention might be surprised when they return to Lake County. The Bull Creek Trail Connector is now open, and links Libertyville Towwship with the Des Plaines River Trail:
Though only about three-quarters of a mile, a new trail dedicated Thursday morning in Libertyville Township is considered a critical link in an area known for an extensive trail system.
Short but crucial link in Lake County trail system complete
A Lake County spokesman for Donald Trump was quick to respond: "Mr Trump promises to build a wall. And Libertyville Township will pay for it."

Conventional Warfare

Republican delegates hoping for an open convention may have to settle for an open-carry convention. The GOP is expected to nominate Donald Trump for President this week, when they convene in Cleveland Ohio -- an open-carry state. The Lake County delegate to the GOP convention spoke candidly to the Daily Herald ...
Trump delegate Bob Bednar of Mundelein, a 2014 primary candidate for Illinois House, said there's likely to be tension in the delegation because some members have actively and loudly pushed back against the primary winner. "I think there's going to be tension," Bednar said. "And I think there's going to be conflict."

Extremism is No Vice

The new Republican Party 2016 Platform condemns pornography. Presumably there will be no porn to be had by GOP Convention delegates, next week. Coincidentally, perhaps, most Illinois GOP party leaders and elected officials have declined to attend their convention. One contrarian -- who will be at the Cleveland convention -- is Randy Hultgren.

Lake County's boreal Congressman, Hultgren said ...
I met with Donald Trump when he visited the House and I was encouraged that he listened to what we had to say. I look forward to hearing more in Cleveland as our party convenes to select its nominee. Let me be clear: I will support the Republican nominee.

Donald Trump, who is widely considered to be politically radioactive, is expected to reward Hultgren for his loyalty:

How Cheap Can Justice Be?

Q: How many doctors will be needed to perform Chuck Norris's autopsy?
A: Only one: Lake County Coroner Tom Rudd
Haha, but Rudd may not be the Lake County Coroner next year. Michael Donnenwirth is running against Rudd, in November, for the job of Coroner. And while Donnenwirth would not beat Rudd in a fair fight, he hopes to win the way they do in Illinois -- by getting Rudd thrown off the ballot on a technicality:
Attorney Burton Odelson, who filed the challenge, said once one declares themselves to a party the declaration lasts for the election cycle from March to November. Rudd said that because he withdrew as a democrat before the primary, the affiliation should not count.
Democratic candidate: Lake County Coroner can't run as independent
Donnenwirth's attorney, Burton Odelson, is senior partner at Odelson & Sterk, Ltd.:
For more than 40 years, our firm has been acknowledged as a leader in the development and practice of election law in Illinois. Our firm has served as special legal counsel to electoral boards, as well as counsel before the Circuit Court, Appellate Court, Illinois Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court on matters ranging from local hearings to landmark cases.
Odelson & Sterk, Ltd.
Indeed, Odelson has been involved in some high-profile cases:
Bush v. Gore, 121 S. Ct. 525 (2000)
Mr. Odelson was retained by the Bush campaign to participate in an election challenge regarding an equal protection claim involving the measures used for the manual recount of the presidential election votes in Florida in 2000; briefs were filed and case was argued before canvassing boards in West Palm Beach and Broward Counties, ultimately being decided by the United States Supreme Court.

Our Cases – Odelson & Sterk
At present, Michael Donnenwirth does not have a campaign committee and has not filed campaign disclosure reports with the State of Illinois. The threshold for filing is $5000 -- raised or spent. In all likelihood, Donnenwirth has not raised a significant amount of money for his campaign.

Perhaps Odelson & Sterk, Ltd. works for free?

A Fly on the Walsh

Does Joe Walsh look up toward Donald Trump and wonder ...
There but for the grace of God go I?
Former Lake County Congressman Joe Walsh, arguably, was Donald Trump before Donald Trump was cool. And to prove it, the banty-rooster Walsh has been Tweeting up a firestorm:
As the Dallas shootings that left five police officers dead unfolded overnight, conservative radio host and former U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh posted on Twitter "this is now war" in a tweet that sparked a firestorm across the country online.
Former Rep. Joe Walsh: "Watch out Obama"
One spokesman explained it this way: "How is the lunatic-fringe supposed to get any attention these days, when your candidate for President is the lunatic fringe?"

Haha, here's a picture of Joe Walsh at a fundraiser for some local trumbolone that your LakeCountyEye never heard of:

Trump Together With ...

Your LakeCountyEye has been commissioned to conduct a flash poll: Raise your hand if you have the grit, the determination, and the $1,495 to be Donald Trump's Vice President.

Haha, the Chicago Tribune noted that the question of ...
who would be Trump's running mate is also a question of who would take the job in light of many Republicans' ambivalence about his candidacy. Many establishment types in the party are skipping the GOP convention.
Trump's VP shortlist heavy with Washington insiders
And many of those convention no-shows will be from Illinois. Crain's broke the news, which appeared in the CapitolFax:
at the moment, not one member of Illinois' congressional delegation has said they'll be in Cleveland [except for Congressman Peter Roskam], according to both official and inside sources. Nor is Gov. Bruce Rauner, comptroller Leslie Munger or any statewide GOP official.
Roskam, Durkin among few planning to attend GOP convention
Peter Roskam, Lake County's vestigial Congressman, is expected to break ranks with his colleagues, and will be in Cleveland for the four-day convention.  This despite the fact that Roskam is more often seen overseas, in far-flung destinations like Taiwan, Myanmar and Israel.

Ops are advised to look for Roskam centerstage on the GOP convention floor.  Your LakeCountyEye has been told the foot-loose Roskam is a hands-on favorite:

Police Cover Up

George Orwell may have predicted the police state was drawing near. But he never predicted there would be an app for it. According to the Daily Herald, the Round Lake Park Police Department has acquired ...
MyPD, a free application available for Android and iPhones. The app allows residents or others to connect with Round Lake Park police from their own devices.
New Round Lake Park police app invites public to connect
The app is free, courtesy of tiny Round Lake Park (pop. 7371). At the same time, this Village also has to budget for the costs of a Federal lawsuit:
Ten Round Lake Park police officers have filed a federal lawsuit seeking more than $15 million, claiming body cameras that recorded them during private times violated their civil rights and right to privacy and intentionally inflicted emotional distress.
Round Lake Park officers sue department over body cameras
Your LakeCountyEye is not sure what the fuss is all about. It is a commonly known fact that a computer application can take control of the camera on any device with an Internet connection.

Note to residents of Round Lake Park: computer experts are in agreement about the best way to disable the camera on your smartphone ...
That's all your LakeCountyEye has. Don't forget to say CHEESE.
