Unidentified Flying Objections

Line #7: Signer resides outside the district. He's making a list,

Who's naughty or nice.

Old Kris Kringle sure needs plenty of help around this time of the year. Which means the elves operatives down in Springfield have been working overtime all week, scrutinizing nominating petitions for even the tiniest transgression. Ho ho, candidates have filed for the 2012 Primary and petition challenge season is nigh upon Lake County.

The season's most dogged elf has to be Sharon Meroni. According to the Northwest Herald ...
A familiar face from the 2010 election, Sharon Ann Meroni, filed objections Monday against all three candidates for the 52nd District, as well as against 26th Senate District incumbent Dan Duffy, R-Lake Barrington, and Democratic challenger Amanda Howland.
Objections filed to petitions for local House, Senate districts
Senate/26 and Rep/52 are districts where Meroni is eligible to file. Five objections, although an impressive number, are no match against the astonishing thirty-two Meroni filed in 2010. The Northwest Herald, again ...
Meroni, of Barrington Hills, filed 32 objections in 2010 in an effort to get proof of their U.S. citizenship.
Objections filed to petitions for local House, Senate districts
Ho ho, a note to all junior operatives, when you put out milk and cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve, it might not hurt to leave a copy of your photo ID as well.

Meroni, of course, should be commended in demanding proof of citizenship from her ballot candidates. Who knows how many illegal aliens have already snuck across the Illinois border to get themselves elected to the statehouse, brazenly represent you, and later on retire to live the sweet, sweet life of the public sector pensioner?

Suspicious operatives may suspect that requiring proof of citizenship from their candidates is really part of a wider effort to suppress voter turnout. If the birther movement ever gets its way, sooner or later everyone will be required to show a birth certificate before being granted access to their voting booth. Tis the season however, and your LakeCountyEye wishes Sharon Meroni and all the birthers well, and hopes Santa Claus is extra nice to each and every one of them on Christmas night. Just don't forget to ask Santa for his birth certificate first.

So far in the burbs, it has been dog eat dog in the GOP world.
Speaking of the GOP world, I see today several "main-stream" GOPers are throwing their support to a Tea Party Congressman who has absolutely "no record" in his first year and a congress that was just ranked worst in history.
This is a classic example of what is wrong with politics today, people throw their support behind the party regardless of the character or record of the individual, then the mis-informed electorate follows suit.
Perhaps if Venturi stood behind his right of center principles, he might be in a better place, but this established GOPer vacillates with the wind these days.

Someone needs to remind Sullivan to remind his dad that tea party folk do not raise taxes. May make interesting dinner talk for Christmas?

Anon 4:17,

Please enlighten me with what I should be discussing with my father.

Rep. Ed Sullivan

Well your dad was the driving force in raising the Mundelein levy by 3.5%. Even though that is smart municipal government it is a tea party no, no. NEVER RAISE TAXES EVER (even if it erodes services for residents)!!

"Please enlighten me with what I should be discussing with my father."

Is it just me or does this sentence sound painfully awkward?

"Tea party folk do not raise taxes."

Neither did Rod Blagojevich. Is there a point you are trying to make here?

Meroni has been a rabid birther for years.

Check out the 'Oh For Goodness Sake' blog posts that reference her.

She's not about 'fair elections', she's a PUMA with a chip on her shoulder.

Hmm, we go from the awkward to the backward, thanks to good ol' Louis. Try as he and TA may, Rod this and Rod that hasn't really worked out as a campaign strategy. And now this non sequitur reference to Blago just sounds pathetic. But I understand, Louis. Since most GOP state legislators have a hard time answering the age-old, "Whatcha done for me lately?", they, and you, think the Blago thing is a good smoke screen. Hmmm. Not likely.

And yes, Meroni does seem to be way out in the flapping fringes. Another 9/12 devotee, just like Louis.

My comment was point towards one of the "All-star" tea partiers and that fact that his Father "mentor" was driving a tax increase (as I said was a GOOD municipal move). When I am sure on the campaign trail he will be pushing the NO TAX INCREASE EVER motto. Just should be interesting Christmas (yes I said Christmas) dinner conversation.

Anon 2:36, save the squawking for another day. No making fun of Blagojevich supporters around here? Guess this site isn't as freewheeling as it claims to be.

But then, NO ONE supported, campaigned for or endorsed "reformer" Rod Blagojevich for two elections as governor here in good ol' Lake County!

No one!

Just amazing how he managed to elect himself twice with no help from any Democrats!

This is a classic example of what is wrong with politics today, people throw their support behind the party regardless of the character or record of the individual, then the mis-informed electorate follows suit!

Oh wait! Someone else already said that! My bad!

Louis? When Glen Poshard produced checks written to George Ryan, did you accuse him with your standard line of wearing the tin foil hat, or campaign against the utterly corrupt, and soon to be Governor Ryan? You and the rest of the Illinois GOP only separated yourselves from Ryan after he suspended the death penalty, and not because of his rampant corruption as Sec of State. You stumped for Ryan even in the face of specific allegations of direct pay-offs. But what you say regarding the blind party affiliation and support is certainly true, if utterly disingenuous. I mean, you did support that whack-job Curran, that feeble excuse for a prosecutor Waller, and that nepotism-loving Sally Coffeld, didn't you?

At least Geo knew when to buck the party and support quality. Unfortunately, her spirit has left the Lake County GOP forever and in its wake is left yahoos like you who can only Blago, Blago, Blago.

Anon 9:25,

Great piece of fiction! Yes, I stumped for Ryan and never pretended otherwise. When things got obviously wrong with him, I walked away from him like nearly everyone else in the GOP, we didn't pretend that he didn't exist or didn't pretend that we didn't help him get to the top.

When it was obvious that the feds were circling Blagojevich during his reelection campaign, you Democrats behaved differently. You worked even harder to get him reelected. Didn't matter how dirty he was. And the rest was history.

As to your attacks on the county office holders, your impression of the disgraced Coroner who resigned and plead guilty? Not mentioned, I guess. Oh yeah, he was a Democrat! Curran is despised by you for flipping to a different party. If he continued to be a Democrat, you would be singing his praises. Talk about blind party affiliation! You wrote the book on that!

Geo was always quick to point out that the party left her, she never left the party. She remained in the GOP Senate Caucus to the bitter end even though she was less than welcome there following her primary election loss. Blind party affiliation in your eyes? Or a person of strong character who stood her ground?

Stick to writing fiction. When you try to blend in a few facts, it screws up your little story!

Louis G. Atsaves

PS: Nice win in Federal Court today. When the Federal court found the newly gerrymandered Congressional Districts to be "blatantly partisan" and that you Democrats didn't "intentionally" discriminate against Latinos and minorities, does that leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy in victory? Or perhaps you feel the way Geo's enemies felt when they took her out, and found out later the hard way that they won a battle but lost the war. Explain THOSE findings so harshly stated by the court to the voters! And sleep well tonight!

"When things got obviously wrong with him..."

Poshard's allegations were made during the campaign. You didn't seem to mind that Ryan was a crook. But when Ryan tried to open trade with Cuba and commuted the death sentences of all the death row inmates, now that was going too far. (Note should be taken that the featured death row cases that precipitated those commutations came from, you guessed it, the utterly Republican controlled DuPage County.) Your revisionism is pathetic, Louis, but revealing. It's okay to give a GOP child pornographer a slap on the wrist; it's okay to have the state's only county court system not on-line; and it's okay to gerrymander our county board and specifically target African-American districts, just because it happen to have been done by your teapublicans. And the coroner? You seem to forget that his troubles had nothing to do with the administration of his office. The guy was trying to help addicts, and made the mistake of believing one. The consistent strain of your rancid thought process, mirrored by your GOP county office holders and state legislators in northeast Illinois is, pad your pockets-good, advance the people-bad, protect the party-good, protect the people-bad.

I did sleep well, thank you very much. In fact, I'd been asleep for almost two hours while you were hittin those exclamation points and gettin your keyboard all spittally. Poor Louis. This whole pretzel logic thing is obviously keeping him up at night.

Anonymous said...

Anon, trying to advance your highly entertaining logic through personal insults clearly isn't working here. Tom Adams had a judge from another county. Cuba and death sentence suspensions occurred AFTER the Ryan scandals surfaced.

Your coroner investigated himself and covered up and obstructed justice.

And finally the county board redistributing PALES when compared to the federal court finding you democrats were blatantly political and did in fact discriminate against minorities, but the discrimination was not bad enough to warrant reversal.

Through all your rants you never disclosed if you supported Blagojevich TWICE. So spare me the lectures.

Louis, your time-line is all wrong. The allegations of pay-offs as Secretary of State came before Ryan was elected Governor. You stumped for him knowing he was a thief. Moreover, the very same allegation made against Ryan before his election was the same one he was convicted upon years later. You want Dems to admit they supported Blago, but sugarcoat your own thief. And, review above. You were the one that dropped Blago's name utterly out of context. Not only is that a losing campaign strategy in general, it means you have no noteworthy accomplishments to mention regarding your own GOP state legislators up here. To wit: Osmond - the insurance company's shill and no friend to any taxpayer on the planet, let alone Lake County. Sullivan - a much better taxpayer defender, but still stumping for expensive township brick and mortar rather than just dumping the whole money sucking thing. Cole - the secret pro-choicer who can't even vote for revenue neutral bills sponsored by Osmond. And, of course, Suzi Schmidt - talk about an utter failure! But keep up with the Blago thing, Louis. You'll help change the face of the Lake County Legislative caucus on November 7th, 2012.

The allegations of Secretary of State payoffs surfaced WHEN? Did you even bother to check your "facts" before posting that nonsense? When those surfaced, Republicans left Ryan standing alone to the point where he declined to run for a second term, because he was basically standing alone.

When allegations of wrongdoing surfaced about Blagojevich during his first administration, Democrats rallied around him and helped him get elected to a second term. Remember who his campaign chairmen were the second time around?

And YOU are PROUD of THAT? So did you or did you not support Blagojevich? Twice?

And you carp about GOP ethics in the face of that outrage and others you conveniently forgot about?

And now that you are dragging others into your little twisted fantasy world to try to cover for your paucity of facts and specious arguments.

For the last EIGHT years, Democrats have had a free run in Springfield and have run it into the ground. The amount of input by the GOP has been minimal as they have been routinely shut out of the process during that time. Now the State is being held hostage by angry large corporations threatening to leave due to massive tax increases and walking away with corporate welfare, thanks to the massive failure of Democrats in governing.

And YOU want to bring THAT to the County Board of Lake?

Wow!

Sarcasm and snottiness are no substitutes for reality, Louis. Neither is shifting the focus when you are clearly losing. I'm gonna have to watch you on trial someday because I know that sort of weak-sister bull doesn't fly.

But, assuming your question wasn't rhetorical, allegations regarding massive corruption at the hands of George Ryan surfaced back when he was Speaker of the House. He used his influence to quash and investigation of a nursing home and then they, after the investigation ended, contracted with Ryan's pharmacy to supply drugs. Ryan's pharmacy also sold equipment to the State, in direct violation of the law. Ty Fahner refused to prosecute. And of course, the Maywood Sec of State facilty was raided long before Ryan's election. As Secretary of State, Ryan hired lawyers in an attempt to silence Joe Powers' references to him in his case on behalf of the Willis family. All long before the election. Powers and Poshard repeatedly claimed that there were checks directly to Ryan's campaign fund from commercial license recipients long before the election. The BGA, Poshard, and Powers held a news conference in the summer before the election and displayed copies of the checks. Those very checks would be the evidence that sent Ryan to the slammer. But you stumped for the guy all the same.

Louis, when you make a statement with no good faith reason to believe it is true, you get sanctioned in federal court. But in this forum, you just get called a liar.

So quit whining. As I'm sure you've heard many a judge say, "You opened the door, Mr. Atsaves. Perhaps you should have thought your way though this more completely. Objection overruled!"

Speaker of the House?

Did he cheat while playing HS basketball too?

Are YOU for real? You couldn't support your own argument so you avoided it by going further back in time?

You are the type of witness we lawyers love to cross-examine. You keep on talking and the more you talk the less sense you make.

Kind of like supporting Blagojevich TWICE. Makes no sense!

Pathetic. Atsaves, go back to TA or go slay some Ellens. You're getting schooled here.

You said: "The allegations of Secretary of State payoffs surfaced WHEN? Did you even bother to check your "facts" before posting that nonsense? He said: "And of course, the Maywood Sec of State facilty was raided long before Ryan's election. A little googling verified that the above statements are true. Those allegations against Ryan as Sec. of State surfaced just after the primary, and were based upon a federal investigation that was already three years old.

Give it up, Atsaves. This commenter wins. You don't seem to know what you're talking about, so you just get more shrill and offensive. Be gone, loser!

Anon, I keep asking when those complaints SURFACED. You prefer to not answer that question.

Did you support Blagojevich, TWICE? You haven't really answered that one either.

But keep trying. It's fun watching you repeatedly bang your head against the wall of truth.
