Q the Eye/12.02.11

Dear LakeCountyEye,

I must vigorously stand up and protest this latest of calumnies you've perpetrated upon an unexpecting and misinformed electorate and at the expense of one of our finest elected government officials! To wit I refer your attention to a recent dispatch posted on this laughably self-described "non-partisan" blog, of which your readers are without a doubt pompously aware! ...
Rated R:
for Things Blown Way Out of Proportion
Therein you basely attribute to State Representative Ed Sullivan Jr outrageous statements of an inflammatory nature against some self-appointed left-wing anarchists occupying our public plazas and thoroughfares! It stretches my credulity that the thoughtful, independent Ed Sullivan Jr would brand these hooligans as being "un-American" or accuse them of "raping and pillaging and beating people up and murdering". Whereas these same hooligans are obviously capable of such treasonous and criminal acts and more, no sensible elected official, at least within my sphere of influence, would ever make any sort of silly accusation of this nature! I personally know Representative Sullivan, who is a fine & well-qualified upstanding pillar who would never utter such a ridiculous remark, not unless under duress, and certainly never for the benefit of the public ear!

Sirrah, I demand a swift and unequivocal apology for the good maligned Representative!

Your LakeCountyEye speculates that Sullivan is stealing a page from out of the Joe Walsh playbook:
  1. Make some incendiary, outrageous remark for the benefit of the teevee cameras.
  2. Wait for the MSM to pay you some attention.
This may be just what the doctor ordered for jumpstarting a stalled political career!

If you are an elected official, or a previously elected official, or just a private citizen under indictment, send your political questions to Q the Eye c/o ... LakeCountyEye@gMail.com

Dear BB,

After covering the political scene here in Lake County for some time I would think you would have a better idea what a person’s M.O. is. To your points:

1.) I have turned down MSM interviews.
2.) The only direction my career is going in the foreseeable future is in the direction of two toddlers ages 3 & 4. You can check my Face book page for verification.

I think the true intention of your post is trying to jumpstart an underperforming blog. Glad I can help. For those that would like to have an honest discussion of my remarks regarding HR610 and a further explanation of my thought process please email me at ILHouse51@sbcglobal.net.

You've turned down MSM interviews? Do you not get that the blog is referring to Main-Stream-Media? Don't want to be interviewed by the media, Eddie? If your thought process isn't apparent from your words, Ed, maybe you should just not speak. Well, actually, your thought process IS apparent from your words and you still should just not speak.

Anon 9:15,

I do understand the letters MSM mean Main Stream Media. Have you seen a direct quote from me in any news media be it print, TV or internet (other than this blog)? No. The author of the post would have you believe that my remarks in opposition to HR610 were some political stunt to garner attention. If you would like to come out of the shadows of your anonymous post send me an email. I can be reached at ILHouse51@sbcglobal.net. If not, Happy Holidays.

Hmm. Ed suggests an anonymous poster "come out of the shadows" while he proclaims that he has never allowed a direct quote in the media. It sounds to me like Mr. Sullivan is not only working hard at being a 'shadow' politician, but he's damn proud of it. I mean, how slippery can he get? He doesn't even have the guts to wish someone a Merry Christmas!

Given his shadowy, even cagey nature, perhaps Festivus is the more appropriate holiday celebration for Mr. Sullivan, jr's family and constituents. I'll bring the pole and promise no direct quotes!

Quite frankly I am not sure what to make of your post. I guess I will start by saying perhaps you should go back and read the string of posts before yours and come back and rehabilitate your comments. I certainly have given “direct quotes” to the media regarding many topics over the years. I have just not given direct quotes to the media regarding this issue.

It certainly took quite a bit of effort to get shadow politician, slippery, guts and Merry Christmas into an attack. Impressive. I am not sure how it relates to this discussion but let me try to answer. Several years ago I inadvertently held a state sponsored event on a Jewish Holiday. I was called out right here on this very blog, deservedly. So yes when I wished the anonymous poster Happy Holidays I was indeed trying to not offend someone. You got me on that one.

Ed Sullivan, jr, 8:43 - "1.) I have turned down MSM interviews."

Ed Sullivan, jr, 9:53 - "Have you seen a direct quote from me in any news media be it print, TV or internet (other than this blog)? No."

Ed Sullivan, jr, 3:53 - "Quite frankly I am not sure what to make of your post. I guess I will start by saying perhaps you should go back and read the string of posts before yours and come back and rehabilitate your comments. I certainly have given “direct quotes” to the media regarding many topics over the years."

Mr. Sullivan, if you weave around like this on the roads, the Lake County Sheriff would certainly pull you over. (But let you go because, ahem, Lake County GOP, wink-wink, nod-nod, Suzi and I are BFF's...) The hooked-troutish flopping around you have demonstrated clearly puts you ahead of the line as a Mitt Romney strategist.

And while your repeated posts are much appreciated for their comedic value, they fail to further illuminate your thought process beyond the "boo-hoo, stop-picking-on-me" whining.

You'd think, with all the time here on this "underperforming" blog, (By the way, does the Illinois Department of Revenue have a secret performance metric for blogs similar to the one you always site for your other taxpayer funded job?), that you'd at least come up with some evidence of rape and/or murder attributable to the OWS protestors. Pillaging is so, you know, subjective. One man's pillage is another's Lollapolooza, Tea Party rally or Alpine Days Parade, so we'll let that go.

But perhaps the previous suggestion is the best here. It was suggested that your thought process was evident and that you should thus, just quit attempting to explain. Continue if you must, because it's Friday and we all love to start the weekend with a laugh, but know it's not helping your cause.

hi Ed,

That's a given -- I'm in a perpetual state of trying to jumpstart this furshlugginer blog.

Regarding MO's, I try to give the benefit of the doubt at first, and assume political expediency whenever possible.

But if you're convinced that OWS is un-American and guilty of raping and pillaging and beating people up and murdering -- I stand corrected.

PS I think someone spiked the eggnog around here, the peanut gallery seems to have gotten into a feisty mood.

Anon 5:59pm,

I have two words for you, Reading Comprehension. Unfortunately some people just don’t have it, sorry. Go to a lawyer, whose prerequisite for finishing law school is Reading Comprehension, to explain these posts to you. I give up.

As I have stated, which you seem to have not understood, if you would like to have an explanation of my views regarding HR610 please email me to ILHouse51@sbcglobal.net. If you don’t want to send me your email address then simple internet site searches will reveal instances of rape, murder, and general pillaging at various OWS protest sites throughout the country. Oakland would be a good starting point.

Dear BB,

There certainly is something in the air today. While not necessarily agreeing all the time, I do enjoy reading posts here at LCE and at times the interaction of some knowledgeable posters. I obviously have a fan on your side of the isle. I’ll leave it at that.

Ed, let's hope reading comprehension is a prerequisite for getting into law school in the first place. They're sort of booky there.

Would that a prerequisite for membership in the Illinois House of Representatives was clarity of speech, or even thought.

I fully comprehended and faithfully reported your statements above. It's not my fault that you are inarticulate when left to your own devices and not regurgitating Glenn-Beckisms on the floor. It's not my fault that you chose to respond to BB's post with snark instead of citations. It's not my fault that you chose to comment on a blog that provides for anonymous commentary, then repeatedly whine about anonymity. Twice it was suggested that you just not speak. For cryin' out loud, Ed, take that advice! It's got to be uncomfortable continuing to type as you fall down that well.

That's 'aisle' Representative Sullivan, not 'isle'.

edsullivanjr said...

Yep, you got me. Thank you for pointing that out. I also did not spell Facebook correctly. I have my lawyers working on an immediate lawsuit against Microsoft because it could not possibly be my fault those words were incorrectly typed. Later today I will be "occupying my office" in protest.

Rep. Ed Sullivan

Or, perhaps, reaching across the 'aisle' is so foreign a concept that you just couldn't spell it.

LOL! Another GOP proponent of lawsuit reform heading to the courts, joining the ranks of Dishman, Venturi and Leafblad. You may just be joking, but then again, your stance on lawsuit reform is as well. Take that commenter's advice, Representative Sullivan, and just quit while you're far, far behind.
