Congressman Over-the-Top

In just four short months, we've learned that Joe Walsh will say pretty much anything that's on his mind. His Tea Party handlers have given him the talking points but he wants to be loved so much by his right-wing fans that he keeps going even farther than they would imagine.

Are you concerned that Medicare won't be there to cover you when you're old? That if the 2012 Republican budget sponsored by Congressman Ryan passes you'll have to beg an insurance company to cover you when you are old and sick? Joe Walsh thinks that's fine and dandy. In fact, his main concern is the incredible burden his children and grandchildren will have to pay to keep the old farts alive.

At his Town Hall on April 11, he predicted, with a straight face, that in 30 years, his kids are going to be paying 80 to 90 percent of their income to support Medicare and Social Security. (Yes, we have it on tape.) Ninety percent? We thought slavery was abolished 150 years ago.

So (follow the Joe logic here), if old people have to go to the insurance industry for medical coverage, and the insurance industry is able to deny coverage for pre-existing conditions (something else he voted for), then old people will be denied treatment for everything and die. Voila! Junior Walsh will be able to stop eating cat food because he won't have to support nearly as many oldies. Death panels, indeed.

I do feel for the folks in the 8th. I am going to go on a ledge and bet that 57% of the district won't be caught not giving a rats @ss ever again and come out to vote in 2012 and years after that.

Redtail, before you get all high-n-mighty about what a crackpot Joe Walsh is, you might want to recall that it's only been a matter of 50 years or so since the top marginal tax rate was over 90%. Don't think it can't happen again with the way things are going, pal.

Ah, Team, that's the point. Crackpot Joe didn't mention a marginal rate at all. He said his kids were going to have to pay 80-90 percent of their *income* to support grandpa's Medicare and Social Security.

Did he misspeak? We certainly hope so. But we think he (and perhaps you?) don't understand marginal tax rates. Even if you make $250,000, you would only pay top rates on those dollars over $250K if President Obama's tax plan was to be implented. We're afraid Joe doesn't have a clue.

And, guess what, when marginal tax rates were higher and wealthy people were paying their fair share, we were a more prosperous nation. Hope this helps.

Eye,

Is that the best you have on Walsh? Let me help you out:

Walsh's Chief of Staff (Justin Roth), was a political hack and lobbyist for the Insurance and Bank lobby for many years. On January 5, 2011, Walsh started out as the poorest member of Congress - but has now raised almost $400,000 in the 1st Quarter of 2011. I wonder if Walsh ever explained any of this to his Tea Party followers in The Great Awakening, Barrington Tea Party, Palatine Tea Party, Northern Illinois Patriots, or the 9-12 Patriots. I'm guessing Walsh never mentioned it to his followers. Now you know why Justin Roth is Walsh's Chief of Staff.

Walsh's District Director (David Carlin), is another political hack. He already had at least one big political paycheck in DuPage County - and his connections to Pat Brady and Kirk Dillard made him valuable to Walsh. The Illinois Republican Party (IRP) Insiders think they now have instant credibility with all those Tea Party supporters through Walsh. Nothing could be further from the truth because the Tea Party Leaders are in the dark about the deal Walsh has cut with the IRP. Now you know why David Carlin is Walsh's District Director.

By the way, Walsh lent $28,500 - (supposedly his own money) to his campaign in 2010. You can verify this by looking at the FEC (Federal Election Commission) filings. So how did Walsh do that? Where did all that cash come from?

Walsh is broke. He wasn't even paying his bills. Walsh lost his expensive Evanston Condominium to Foreclosure just a year earlier. His highest ever income was once $35,000 for a single year. Walsh also has a few kids attending some very expensive Universities. So who's paying for that? Where is all this money coming from? Be prepared for more money stories from this clown.

One last item, if you look at any of his FEC filings, you will see what cash was raised, what bills were paid, and how much debt was still outstanding at the end of each Quarter. But if you flowchart the Walsh cash flow, it doesn't add up.

At the end of 2010, Walsh claimed he still had almost $400,000 in debts. And for the 1st Quarter of 2011, he raised almost $400,000 and spent about $100,000 including paying himself back on some personal loans to the campaign, but he also decided to skip out on almost all of the $400,000 in debt he had at the end of 2010. He is now disputing almost all of it.

Reading a disclosure filling is just amazing. You hear someone like Joe just list a line of BS. I am of the people, it is about the little guy, big government, etc.

Look at who is funding him. Never seen so many homemakers that happen to live in Barrington in my life :). Look like all the exec at Cancer Treatment Center of America gave (that is CTCA, look at Mayo and Stephenson). Then start looking at the expenses, plane tickets, cell phones, how many catering situations can someone have in 4 months???

Tea Party for the people my a$$.

Can we read this at his Town Hall tomorrow? Love to see the reaction...not of Joe, but his band of merrimen from Baggerville.

Thank you, Team America. I don’t understand when you say, “The way things are going…” Let’s go back to why we have a progressive income tax. Wasn’t it that Republican Teddy Roosevelt who was so repelled at the excess of the wealthy he thought it was a good idea? I supported Mr. Reagan’s when he told us to give the rich whatever they want and you will get some of what you want through Trickle Down. I watched our American rich not only take what Reagan gave them, but take much of the trickle down as well. Trickle Down was not a fraud, to me. But it was a fiction. Now we are seeing Mr Walsh promoting frauds. In the 60’s I watched the Far Left yelling, “Nothing private. Everything Public!” as they bled inside each other’s wounds. Now I see the Far Right yelling, “Nothing public. Everything private!” as they lie their way through town meetings. I went to one. Plenty was said about Mr. Obama’s deficit. Nothing was said about Mr. Cheney saying, “Deficits don’t matter.” Nothing was said about Mr Bush’s tax cuts for our American rich during one of the most expensive wars in American history. A $5 Trillion Deficits Don’t Matter legacy. Nothing was said about the Republicans voting for deficits back then and yelling “The sky is falling!” now. (I smirk at Mr. Kirk.) Hell, I want “less”, more efficient government. But I have a problem with no government.

"you might want to recall that it's only been a matter of 50 years or so since the top marginal tax rate was over 90%"

Yep. We were paying for this 'little thing' known as WWII and the Marshall Plan.

See, in those days Republicans and Democrats realized you actually had to pay for stuff like wars and recoveries.

Then, about 30 years ago, this guy called Ronny Raygun got elected and told us that magic trickle down pixie dust would solve everything.

He was wrong.

He racked up trillions in debt immediately upon dropping taxes and even though he tried to recover by RAISING taxes over and over it still wasn't enough to fix the economy he wrecked. (Thanks Pres. Reagan for putting a tax on unemployment insurance payouts, by the way, way to kick Americans while they're down)

Reagan and his ballooning deficits are now considered godlike by fiscally irresponsible conservatives who also believe in magic pixie dust.

In fact, the most recent GOP to pick up the Reagan mantle was a fellow named George W. Bush.

He not only gave the super-wealthy huge tax breaks but also launched two wars without bothering to pay for them. The national debt under W not only exploded but it literally grew more in his 8 years THAN IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF OUR NATION. Bush even managed to tack on an extra $2 trillion in debt in just his final 3 months in office.

Wall Street had quite a party with that money while Main Street paid out the hindside for it.

W's sidekick Dick Cheney reassured us all "Reagan proved deficits don't matter" -- until a black guy takes over and a pair of billionaire Koch brothers decide they really don't want to pay their fair share any more, that is.

In his Town Hall at Harper College he was saying that the Social Security retirement age needed to be raised. When a couple people politely reminded him there aren't jobs for people that age, he said there are "creative ways to make money, but let's move on". I don't have the exact wording, but the "creative ways to make money" is a quote.

Creative ways for old people to make money? Like what, crafts? Growing tomatoes? How about skipping on mortgage payments which seems to have worked for Joe Walsh.
