Early Voting begins today, March 16th and continues until April 2, 2009. The only place to vote during the early voting period is your respective township building. The hours of operation are standard throughout the county; Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m until 4:30 p.m an Saturdays 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

It's not entirely correct that township offices are the early voting locations. Here in Shields Township, the only location is Elawa Farms in Lake Forest. The County Clerk's office has posted a list of all eary voting locations in the county at http://oldapps.lakecountyil.gov/spcountyclerk/pdfs/EVhours.pdf.

Thanks for the clarification Nicki!

Any idea as to what this cost?

Has to be wayyyyyyyy more than the cost of one day voting.

Given the condition of the Lake County finances, I would think the folks who spend OUR money would use it more wisely until the County's income gets back to normal.

It does cost way more, because they have to hire election judges and have the polling place staffed during the specified hours. That's why they've drastically cut down on the number of early voting locations in the last two elections. However, early voting isn't up to the County - it's state law.

I wish the County would make Early Voting a bit more accessible by changing the hours. Currently early voting goes from 9:00 to 4:30 and 2 on Saturday. I just have to wonder how many people are showing up between 9 and 2. Wouldn't it be more conducive to attracting early voters to being open from 2 until 8. Don't most voters work during the day?

Oh No? Did a Mayor Vince Donofrio relative who lives far outside of Highwood's city borders just cast a ballot in the Highwood Mayoral election?
